Chris L. Ramsey Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Christopher (Chris) Ramsey, Sr. was a faithful servant, loving husband, amazing father, devoted son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor and health advocate whom our community lost on January 16, 2021 from complications of COVID-19.
Chris was a member of Brainerd High School’s Class of 1984 and after graduation, he matriculated to Austin Peay State University where he earned a BS in Business Administration. He also earned his MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
As an undergraduate, he became an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and continued to serve as a Life Member and held several leadership roles on the Local, Province, and Grand Chapter levels.
Chris was committed professionally and in the community throughout his life, he was employed at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee for 24 years holding various management roles; he served as the President and CEO of Tech Town Foundation and started several businesses-an insurance agency, YESMAR consulting firm and during the height of the COVID outbreak when there was a shortage of PPE supplies in the Chattanooga community, he started a PPE supply company…and still found time to continuously serve in the community.
He was the Chair for the Hamilton County Minority Health Fair and Founder of the Boys Leadership Summit. He also served and held various positions on several community Boards such as the Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga, UC Foundation, The Southeast Tennessee Health Consortium Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Inc. just to name a few.
At the Community Foundation, our long-term relationship started with Chris when he was selected as a Coca-Cola Centennial Scholarship recipient his senior year of high school. Needless to say, he was an outstanding student. We were so fortunate to have him serve on our Board and Scholarship Committee for many years. He put so much thought into the interview questions and made sure each interviewee felt at ease during the interview. He would even give them his contact information after the interview, so they could keep in contact…he wanted everyone he met to succeed.
Chris’ ministry was his deep and meaningful community service work, his mission was to ensure everyone had access to accurate and up-to-date information and felt valued. He lived by the motto, “Service is the price we pay for the space we occupy.” Chris was the ignitor behind many health-related services and resources available to our underserved populations in our community.
His family established the Chris L. Ramsey, Sr. Memorial Scholarship to honor his life and memorialize his spirit. Chris leaves behind a legacy of community service, family, advocacy, education and selflessness.
