Opportunity for All

Our New Grantmaking Strategy

In 2017, after the adoption of a new strategic plan, Foundation staff collected data, conducted research and engaged community leaders in conversations about how to improve our existing grantmaking approach to best serve our primary stakeholder – the community.

We knew we needed a grantmaking strategy that would inspire community solutions to the complex problems our neighbors face: intergenerational poverty and a lack of opportunity for economic mobility and educational achievement. While we will continue to support those nonprofit partners serving our most vulnerable, we recognize it is a moral and economic imperative to strategically invest in solutions that address the root causes and systems-level effects of need in our community.

Which is why we are prioritizing projects that work to create broader community solutions to complex issues of need, thereby creating additional opportunities for all. We will focus on building the capacity of organizations to not only care for vulnerable populations, but to tackle the root causes of the issues their clients face.
