Chattanooga Area Food Bank
The Chattanooga Area Food Bank (CAFB) leads a network of partners working to eliminate hunger and promote better nutrition in our region. CAFB brings nourishing food to our neighbors who seek help. Hand in hand with retailers, manufacturers, farmers, buying alliances, and individual donors, CAFB is the Chattanooga region’s biggest champion in the fight against hunger.
CAFB sources 12 million pounds of food every year. And not just any food, the organization focuses on bringing in fresh produce and other nutritionally valuable products because they believe in providing food that is healthy, fresh, and nourishing to the people they serve.
Nutritious meals are especially important to children, as hunger can affect the way they learn and develop. In our area, one in five children doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from. That’s why CAFB has geared programs toward feeding children healthy food to support healthy, growing bodies. Over 2,000 children in the Chattanooga area receive Snack Packs from CAFB each Friday.
That’s why the Chattanooga Area Food Bank can leverage donated dollars far further than donated food items. The buying power of CAFB ensures that the organization can provide staple items to families in need along with fresh produce. Currently, CAFB’s 40,000-square-house is completely full with over 1 million pounds of food available to agency partners. If monetary and food donations stopped today, its warehouse would empty in less than three weeks.
In our area, over 136,000 people go hungry for many different reasons. The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is there to ensure they have the help and support they need.
